Frank Green will provide a fascinating history about the bells and bell towers at Romsey Abbey.
Until 1625 The bells were housed in a detached bell tower to the north of the church before being moved into the central tower. There is archaeological evidence for the casting of at least one bell on the site before 1100. The talk will outline discoveries made when the bells were rehung in 2007 to form one of the finest rings of 8 bells in the region.
Frank is a visiting fellow at Bournemouth University. He is a member of the Winchester Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches.
