Our volunteer team is a vital part of King John’s House and Tudor Cottage Trust’s work and the House, Museum and Garden could not function without them. We are always happy for volunteers to join us . We would like to invite you to come and find out more on one of three days: Thursday 29 February, Friday 1 March or Saturday 2 March. On this day you will be introduced to the site and history of this place, there will be Trustees and Volunteers to explain their roles and refreshments available from Miss Moody’s Tea Room
About the Volunteer Roles
Like most heritage organisations the Trust relies heavily on the support of volunteers in the delivery of its charitable mission and volunteers are an important part of the community that we are building around the House and Museum. Volunteers are important ambassadors for the Trust.
There are over seventy volunteers who keep the museum open, the Trust rely on their dedication and giving of time and talents. You could be part of this wonderful team.
Here are the different roles
Trustees
This important group of people meet regularly to discuss the Trust business which includes the running of the whole site.
Heritage Asset (Buildings)
A team who take care of the Medieval, Tudor and Victorian buildings on the site, there is a need for both practical people as well as those who are interested in project managing side of the work.
Collections
The Trust holds a collection of items that require listing and looking after.
Housekeeping
This team work under the direction of the Collections Team in specialist cleaning.
Environmental Monitoring
Alongside the Housekeeping team are those concerned with keeping the items safe.
Tour Guides
This team help our visitors to understand the site.
Museum Welcomers
Working alongside the Tour Guides, Museum Welcomers, encourage people to visit and are available to answer questions and help keep the visitor and our site safe.
Costumed Interpreter
This group of volunteers are happy to take on a role and tell the stories of King John’s House from inside a character.
Gardeners
he period gardens that surround the house are managed solely by the Gardening Team who meet weekly during the summer months and once a fortnight in the Winter. They are particularly looking for waterers and pruners.
