New activities for schools, a research facility, and community spaces are planned for the museum, thanks to a grant of £16,250 awarded by Test Valley Borough Council. The funding will help kickstart the project, which is part-funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Engaging and active learning sessions for local primary school classes will aim to foster a sense of pride and personal connection with the history of Romsey and the wider area. An archive room will be created to enable people to book a desk and undertake historical research, including accessing information on the museum’s collections. When school activities aren’t taking place, spaces will be opened up for use by local community groups.
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK, investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills. For more information, visit https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-shared-prosperity-fund-prospectus
